Microsoft re-launches the challenge to Google on the ground research with Bing, the search engine to replace the Live Search portal MSN from June 3. Hello, European site is also integrated within Bing for price comparison shopping online and in Italy alone it has 3.5 million customers.

Decision-making engine, Bing promises to make it easier and faster searches related to every day to buy items, to book travel, obtain medical information and much more credible. The engine is based on semantic search techniques, which interpret the topic of research based on the questions and the words used. In contrast, traditional search engines are limited to adding the words used in the research. The CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer speaks of “decision engine”.

Results in subgroups of the category. The main innovation, as can be seen in the promotional video currently on the site, you can see a preview of the web pages resulting from research, not collected in lists, as is the case now, but in subgroups in each category. So if you search for the word “Italy”, the result will indicate different groups of respondents as a ‘holiday’, ‘tourism’, ‘culture’, ‘real estate market. “

In Europe, according to Microsoft Canada, users will see a homepage Bing characterized by a different image every day with links that allow research into predefined categories such as news, maps and pictures, to which is added to the shopping category.

Google has the primacy in searches. Currently, according to surveys of comScore, Google is used by over 60% of Internet users, Yahoo! about 20%, and Live Search, which is proposed as a default engine when you install Internet Explorer, from just over 8%.

30% of the questions are without answers. Studies on the Internet indicate that 66% of people using more and more research online to make decisions in complex, although recent estimates, calculated according to the feedback of the users of search engines, show that only a search on 4 ’successful ‘. In general, about 30 minutes on average users say they spend in search of information, half is related to subsequent attempts to refine their search in order to achieve the desired information. 30% of respondents, according to comScore analysts, however, remains unanswered.

This release from Microsoft is pretty interesting… its clear that search now needs to go vertical—provide specialized results for different intentions.

At Cazoodle, we try to build large scale vertical search applications—for niche domains, like apartment rentals, online shopping, or local events. All of these, certainly, will improve user search experience.
