HP launches first printer connected to the Internet
United States – Hewlett-Packard on Monday announced the upcoming release of the first printer connected to the Internet. The Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart site is able to print web pages without having to go through a computer.
The Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart web printer new generation should be sold by HP at the end of the year in the United States.
With Wifi and Ethernet connections and integrated touch screen, this printer can connect to some sites like USA Today, Google Maps, Google Calendar, or sites offering tickets for movies, theater tickets or coupons. The user can also connect to photo management sites like Snapfish in order to view, download and print their images easily.
Without browser, the printer does not surf any site. For now, only the sites indicated by the icons displayed on the touch screen are available.
HP plans to provide a source code to developers in order to allow other sites to simplify the printing of their pages. Partnerships with several other sites will take their step forward.
“By enabling people to access content they want in fingertips, customize printing and to create their own applications, and with easy installation and wireless, we will make a significant change in the way People will print in the future,” says Vyomesh Joshi, executive officer at HP.
The HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart site should be available this fall in the United States. To afford it, it will cost 399 dollars.
