New York obtains a real-time CO2 meter
United States, New York – Deutsche Bank, in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has installed a giant meter few days ago which unveils billion tonnes of CO2 emitted anywhere in the world in real-time.
Installed near Madison Square Garden a few days ago by Deutsche Bank and MIT, a university and a research center, the giant meter is also available on the website of the German bank so that New Yorkers are not the only ones to become aware of the urgency of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
Figures released by the meter take into account all greenhouse gases emitted around the world, twenty-four types of gases which are collected in twelve different sites in the world. The measurements are then converted into CO2 equivalents.
For now, 6.4 billion are displayed on the meter, but this number will increase in tons per second, over two billion tonnes per month.
Deutsche Bank, which provides advice to companies wishing to invest in a “low carbon” was initiated in 2008 to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases by 20% and is carbon neutral by 2013.
