Too much cholesterol harms female sexuality
Italy – The team of Dr. Esposito of the University of Naples links too much cholesterol and triglycerides to the risk of sexual dysfunction in women.
The researchers were interested in 441 women with blood lipid disorders with one or more of the following criteria: LDL cholesterol above 160 mg / dl, HDL cholesterol below 50 mg / dl and triglycerides above 150 mg / dL (high limits ).
These women responded to a questionnaire on their sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, among others. Their results were then compared to those women who are not suffering from hyperlipidemy.
Whereas 9% of the women do not have hyperlipidemy have a score lower than 23 with the questionnaire, they are 32% among women suffering from this disorder. However, this score is considered, as explained in the Nutrition Site, as the threshold limit of sexual dysfunction.
The researchers believe that poor blood circulation caused by hyperlipidemia could prevent the blood flow in the genitals and thus disrupt sexuality.
