Asia – Shortly after daybreak in Asia, the sky was clouded again during a total solar eclipse. This is a unique phenomenon for the twenty-first century and we will not witness such a spectacle again until 2132.
The total solar eclipse began at 5:28 am Indian time. Millions of people situated on a strip of land 250 km wide and covering half of the world were then able to admire this unique phenomenon of the 21st century.
In some places, sunlight has been obscured by the Moon for more than 6 minutes, making it the longest eclipse of the 21st century. It is over the Pacific Ocean that the total eclipse reached its maximum 6 minutes and 39 seconds.
Meanwhile, scientists were able to observe the solar corona, consisting of gas surrounding the star. This is a very rare vision that they finally analyzed. Other thousands of people were gathered at different sites of the Asian countries to admire the spectacle. Faithful to their beliefs, some Indians took the opportunity to bathe in the Ganges, hoping to obtain salvation.
The people of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma and Shanghai were able to watch this exceptional astral phenomenon. The Dean of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics in Bangalore has insisted that this eclipse is the longest of the twenty-first century. ”
He also explained that it was a “significant event for scientific experiments”: “its prolonged duration gives the opportunity to us to make very complex experiments.”
