Canada – If a woman eats with a man, she will choose a diet less rich in calories than if she eats with a woman, according to the study by Dr. Young of the McMaster university in Hamilton, Ontario.

women diningThe team of Dr. Young has observed the behavior of students from three university cafeterias, where there had varied menus and a wide range of people with whom to eat. Dr. Young found that a women who take their meals in the company of a man chooses food with less calories than when eating in the company of another woman.

Also if a woman eats in company of a mixed group of men and women, she chooses food less rich in calories.. The more there are men in the group, the less the food rich in calories. Contrary, if a woman eats with a group of other women, she chooses food rich in calories.

Dr. Young explains: “To eat is a social activity. In the university cafeterias, people choose their food before sitting down, even before knowing with whom they will eat. Given the differences observed, it seems likely that social groups are formed even before the choice of food. ”

The researcher is not surprised by this finding because the food industry targets women with products showing slim female models. Small portions of more seemingly healthy women, while sitting at table with a man, think that while eating less,  they appear more attractive for the eyes of men.
