Breakthrough in the field of artificial nerve cells

Sweden – The teams of the Departments of Physiology University of Stockholm and Linköping have successfully created the first artificial nerve cells which can communicate with nerve cells of a man.
Electrical stimulation has long been used to activate nerve signals. Cochlear implants (ie,  surgically implants installed in the inner ear) are an example. This method, if it activates the cells close to the implant, however offers a very average result. Failure to recognize the different types of cells is the cause.

The artificial cell is composed of electrodes inserted in a …

Dust storms on Mars are accompanied by lightning discharges, for the first time revealed signs of electrical discharges on the planet with a new detector that is installed on a terrestrial radio system, Deep Space Networ.
Although scientists have been virtually assured of the existence of lightning on Mars, to detect them using direct observation has not yet succeeded. Only now, the new detector installed on a 34-meter radio telescope, scientists were able to make it clear that Dusty storm on Mars On 8 June 2006 was accompanied by lightning discharges …

Climate change has helped the Inca Empire

The rapid expansion of the Inca Empire from 1100, and ending in 1532 with the arrival of the Spaniards, was largely aided by rapid growth in agricultural production. This is confirmed by archaeologists and geographers, who analysed the seeds and pollen. Member of this team, Alain Gioda, climate historian, speaks about these discoveries, their meanings and morals. For example, Peruvians of today would be well advised to focus on farming practices of their ancestors, apparently of effective sustainable development.
The poet William Blake wrote that the world could find themselves trapped …

Roman ships discovered nearly 2000 years after their shipwreck

Italy – Five Roman ships have been discovered off the island of Ventotene. The wrecks were dated between the first century BC and fifth century AD.  They were discovered at a depth of more than 100 meters below sea level

A team of archaeologists equipped with sonar technology have analyzed the “graveyard of wrecks” dating from the Roman Empire. Because of the depth at which they were based, the ships have remained unknown for hundreds of years. These ships are now among the most profound to have been discovered in the …
