Nanoparticles could be hazardous to our lungs

Researchers from the Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing have highlighted the damage which the nanoparticules can cause on the lungs, including some cancers.
Nanotechnology is an integral part of medical and scientific projects and has enabled significant progress in the treatment of certain diseases. But their safety has raised many questions. If responses were made for the short and medium term (asthma and pulmonary inflammatory responses, sometimes chronic), long-term effects are still unknown.
Nanoparticles type polyamidoamine dendrimers (PAMAM) were involved in this research because they may cause lung damage by triggering …

Platinum particles in the form of Japanese sweets

A team of researchers from NIMS, supported by the JST, has managed to create platinum nanoparticles whose shape is reminiscent of Japanese confectionery kompeitô (candy with the aspect of an embossed ball). Their surface (55m2/g) are found significantly higher than those of nanoparticles, nanofibers or nanotubes previously created (30m2/g).
Platinum is widely used, particularly as a catalyst (catalytic converter of a car) or electrode in batteries. Increasing the contact area of these nanoparticles will reduce the quantities, and thus the costs of these different applications.
Researchers explain that by adding a reducing …

Nanoparticles and lung cancer

Chinese researchers have shown how nanoparticles used in medicine, such as polyamidoamine dendrimers (PAMAM), can cause lung cancer. If nanotechnology is an important part of major national projects and the industry that is flourishing is attached, this study shows that despite the significant progress made in science and medicine, security issues raised by these particles may not be obliterated.
The article published in the Journal of Molecular Cell Biology shows how this family of nano-particles can cause damage to lungs, triggers a cellular autophagy. Based on experiments conducted by the research …

The silver nanoparticles may prevent blood clots

Scientists from the Banaras Hindu University say they have found an alternative to aspirin and other anticoagulants used to prevent blood clots in the treatment of coronary heart disease and congestion.
Scientists led by Debabrata Dash, director of the department of biochemistry have found in laboratory tests that the use of nano silver particles seems to neutralize the coagulant properties of platelets. According to Dash, the antibacterial properties of nano silver particles were well known but their use in time Anti-coagulant is totally innovative.
Research has shown that the use of nano …

Nanoparticles could make chemotherapy obsolete

United States – A team of researchers from the University of Central Florida says we could one day target and destroy cancer tumors with nanotechnologies, thus preventing patients with the toxic effects of chemotherapy.
Professor Manuel Perez who leads the team that used a drug called Taxol for laboratory studies. It is one of the most used drugs in the arsenal chimiotherapie: “This product causes many side effects, unfortunately, because it attacks as well as cancerous tissue.
The team used special nanoparticles on Taxol only to cancer cells, so you do not …
